Conferences

We are looking forward to welcoming you all into our class over the next few days. We will be doing a combination of student-led and goal setting conferences. The students will be your well equipped tour guides. See you soon!

Dictée for feb 25

Here is this week's dictée. The students don't need to remember the black writing. Those were all the marks I made when we were discussing grammar in relation to this week's words and sentence.

The glare makes it a bit tricky to read some of the words. Here is some clarification:

anglais should have an 's' at the end

Number two should be les montagnes Rocheuses

Happy studying!

Just a reminder...

...tomorrow we are skating! Please remember to bring skating gear and car seats!

Update on last week

Bonjour everyone!

My apologies for the sparse posts - I've been quite sick and have therefore been away from school. Many of us in the class now have barking coughs. I hope everyone else stays healthy. As tough as it can be to miss school, please remember to keep your child at home if they are still contagious. If you are looking for school work to do at home when you child is sick, reading, creative writing (find a silly picture and have them write a story about it), and any kind of math practice are always great things to do!

Thank you so very much to all the parents who helped out with driving, tying skates, and supervising skating this week. We all appreciate it and are looking forward to doing it again this week! If you put down on the permission form that you were available to help out with driving, we will most likely be needing your help. I will be confirming by email tomorrow.

Last week, students worked very hard on projects that I left for the TOC's to do. I was very impressed with the creativity of the imaginary solar system project. This week, we will be finishing up these projects, as well as starting to finish up our unit on division.

Also, here is this week's dictée. Again, it is a paragraph to practice!

The upcoming week

Bonjour everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying a nice long weekend and family day!

Here are a few notes for next week:

- I will be away on Tuesday and Wednesday at a training session.

- Remember that we will be skating on Thursday afternoon! Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help drive and supervise. I have emailed all the parents who volunteered to help drive, and sent home driver liability forms. Please make sure these are back at school by Thursday.

- Students are more than welcome to bring cards for the class, but please remember that if students are bringing cards, they should be for every student in the class. Students can also bring a treat for the class if they wish.

As this week is short, and packed full, we will not have a dictée this week

Friday's reward

As you may have heard, we as a class have earned a reward! After a close vote today, we decided we will be having a pajama party and film tomorrow. Students can wear pajamas to class and can bring one reasonably sized stuffy.

A video to start conversations

I wanted to share this this video with you. It's a great video to get us thinking about how lucky we are.

Important odds and ends

Here are a bunch of important odds and ends of information that will be useful to you. Please take the time to read through these, and remind others that they are here on the blog!

Mindfulness Last week, we started doing some mindful breathing while listing to the ringing of tingshas. This is a chance for our brains to 'chill out' and help us concentrate. It's also great for us to take a 'body break' and be still. Even the most fidgety of our class (Mme Jessica included!) were able to be still and focus on breathing. I'm so proud of the students for jumping into this whole heartedly, eventhough for some it might feel a bit weird!

Skating We are going skating next Thursday, Valentines day. I will be letting parents know this week if we need their help driving. I haven't had a chance to read all of the forms yet, but I have a feeling that we might need all the drivers who volunteered.

When we go skating, the students know that there will be NO CHANCE to use the vending machines so please do not send money for that. We are going to skate and interact with the other class, not to eat.

Valentines Day We will be celebrating valentines day in our class next week. We will have a 'party' between lunch and recess, so if you would like to send along a munchie for the class, you can. Please remember we are a nut free classroom.

Many students may want to bring cards to school! If you are helping your child write valentines cards, please remember that they should be bringing cards for everyone in the class! We now have 24 students.

I believe this is all for now. Check out this photo of some of our snake art to celebrate the lunar new year! We even learned how to write a New Year's greeting (thanks to my boyfriend's mom who taught me!)

This weeks dictée

Here is this week's dictée. It's a bit longer, but we have practiced the names of the provinces before.
