Please don't be alarmed by colorful hands coming home today! It's just food colouring from making slime!

Tuesday 27 June 2017

You hopefully saw that lots of work came home today. Please keep it (or recycle it) as you wish. There is always unfinished work, but often that is extra work after the essentials were done. Agendas also came home and can come home today. Please keep sending backpacks to school the next two days since we have more to bring home.

Today, we worked on one project: a book of pictures and captions from camp cheakamus. Students spent most of the day working on this (10am-2:30pm) but still have some work to finish. I know homework at the end of the year is not the easiest thing, but it is ESSENTIAL these are done and at school tomorrow since we will be presenting them to every other class in the school later this week. Thank you in advance for helping your students remember to bring this tomorrow.

We will be walking to the main school tomorrow for a visit. Is anyone able to walk with us between 10:20-12-30?

Thursday 8 June 2017

It has been a busy week in div 1. Lots of grad projects, and finishing up projects for report cards. We also are working on an interior design project - rearranging our classroom. We measured all the furniture, and thank to my husband, we have a to-scale drawing of everything to play around with. Today, we converted my desk (that was really just a paper accumulator) to a standing desk for the students. Feel free to try this strategy at home standing up to do work is always a great thing!

On a much more serious note, we had to have a conversation today about swearing on the playground. Language like swearing is completely inappropriate for school, and I have made the expectations clear to students. We have known consequences, and we spoke about WHY we don't use that language at school. I told them that if they have any questions about appropriateness of words, they're more than welcome to ask me. We also spoke about how those words have meaning, and aren't just sounds. It would be great if you could have similar conversations at home about this issue. Thanks for your collaboration on this issue!

This week, we have been working on our stories, as well as islands. The last few weeks we have been working on stories. We are at the point of finishing our rough drafts. The criteria are at least 8 pages with at least 4 sentences on each. Everyone brought their stories home this weekend to dog through them, and bring their best work to school on Monday.

We also have been learning about landforms in science. We invented our own islands and made them this week! Here are a few pictures of the islands:

We have also been working on measurement. We measured all the furniture in the class room, as well as the dimensions, and we will be doing new room plans of the classroom!

I apologize again for the blog silence. The app I used was not updated, and was not working. I've found another app that works well so I'll be posting more often!
