Weekend homework

Bonjour everyone,

As you may have seen, some writing homework came home this weekend. In class, we did a free write (where I don't correct, and we don't worry too much about spelling and focus more on getting ideas on the page), about what would happen if I gave them magic beans!

What I am asking students to do on the weekend is to review their writing and make it the best they can do. Here are some things to think about:

Are all of my ideas clear?

Are there lots of details?

Did I choose appropriate words?

Is everything spelled correctly?

Is my writing divided into sentences?

Is my writing neat and tidy so that mme Jessica can read it?

Also, please help your student remember to bring this book back to school on Monday.. This is very important as we will be working with this writing on Monday morning!

Finally, here are some pictures from our week!

4 cats field trip

Here is a bit of info on tomorrow.

If you haven't brought the form yet, please make sure you do!

Since it is supposed to be so nice, we will be walking to 4 cats. We will take our lunches with us and eat in a park. Please pack a portable lunch in a backpack.

Monday update

Please make sure you keep reading after this post, as I did some posts this weekend!

As you may have seen, your children came home with another field trip form today. We will be going to burnaby village museum for our unit on pioneers. Students are encouraged to wear clothes from the period to make for a more authentic experience. As with the other forms, please return these as soon as possible. Also, please remember to return the forms and payments for 4 cats tomorrow since we are going on Wednesday. If I do not have the form, then your child will unfortunately need to stay at school that afternoon.

I wanted to let you know that today, we listened to a very cool podcast called 'c'est la vie' while we worked on our earth day projects. It's a program that is on CBC radio that explores different uses of a French word every week. The students really enjoyed it!

You will notice there is no dictée posted for this week. This is because we will not be doing dictée anymore. For the last few months of grade 3, we will be focusing more on writing and grammar. We will be doing grammar activities in class. If interested, I can post a writing prompt every Monday to fill what was the time spent practicing dictée at home. Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in.

Finally, here is an updated picture of our plants! I think we were all surprised at how much they had grown over the weekend!!

Friday 19 April 2013

I have been following Chris Hadfield, who is the Canadian astronaut at the ISS right now. He posted this amazing picture of Newfoundland. See if you can recognize it the way it is on the maps of Canada that we see more often!

I hope everyone has a nice day off today. We had an enjoyable day working on a school goal.

Here are a few reminders about next week:

Hip hop starts on Monday. Thanks to the whole class for bringing their firms in. This means I didn't have to remind anyone about late forms!!

Next Wednesday we are going on a field trip to 4 cats art studio. Please return forms and money as soon as possible. I may help from one parent with a car to meet us around 2 to take the pots back to school, as I don't want them taking the bus or walking with them. I will confirm this next week.

Our plants have been growing so well! Here are some pictures of them. There are also some pictures of our province and territory bags! It was amazing, the class worked in partners with the bags and worked intently for an hour!!

This week's dictée

There was quite a lot of action in our classroom over the weekend. Many of the seeds we planted sprouted! I've attached a few pictures of them.

Also, here is a picture of this week's dictée. We haven't practiced it in class today, but we will be tomorrow. For this week, we will be writing these sentences plus a little extra work to show me that they understand the different words that sound the same.

It's spring!

We started planting today in class! We just have 4 people left to plant their seeds! Be sure to ask about what your children planted, as everyone planted something different.

New writing project

Today we started a new writing project, where we are inventing our own 'sweet treat' recipes!

Tonight's homework will consist of finishing the ingredients and steps sections. We worked on this in class this afternoon, and because there was only one of me and 24 enthusiastic recipie creators, I didn't get to help everyone with the ingredients or steps they needed help finding in French. If you could help them translate any left-overs that would be great. A dictionary, iPhone app, or even google translate are all appropriate sources for this!

Class needs

Now that we are back at school, I am thinking about the units we will be studying for the rest if the year. There are a few things we will be needing, so if you have any of the following kicking around your house, and don't mind donating it to our class, please bring it in before this Friday, April 5th. This weekend, I will be shopping for whatever we still need.

We are looking for the following:

- 4 inch pots for plants (the kind plants come in from the store are perfect)

- potting soil

- small watering cans

- one large dust pan

Merci!

Welcome back!

Welcome back to school! It was great seeing all the kids today, and they had lots to share!! I'm looking forward to reading the writing they did today about their breaks.

FYI there will be no dictée this week, as its short and the first week back.

This afternoon, we had free art time. Here are some pictures of the creations.
