A couple of things - first off, there is no dictée this week. I know it will be busy with Halloween festivities.

Second, we did all kinds of pumpkin activities today. Their worksheet will be coming home tomorrow after we do a final tally. Here are some photos from the messy fun today.

Here are the voting results from our class. It was so great to see all the kids voting. I’ve also attached some other pictures of our last week

Exciting news! We will be participating in the CIVIX Student Vote. You can find their website here to learn more.

We will be running a mock civic election in the class and students will get to vote for the same candidates as will be on the official ballot in Vancouver.

I will be teaching the main political parties' platforms in class, but I ask you to talk to your students about the different issues being spoken about in this election. Students will be taking 'cheat sheets' to the ballots, so feel free to help your students make them as you are speaking about the issues.

Tomorrow will be Orange Shirt Day, Picture Day, and the day we are singing a song with students all across Canada. It will be exciting! If students don't have an orange t shirt, don't worry, they can make something orange in class in the morning. If you're wondering about Orange Shirt Day, you can find more information here.

Since it is also picture day, students will be given time to change before pictures.

We have been learning a new song that we will all sing together on September 28th. If the students want to practice, you can find a karaoke version here. It's quite wordy but the students have done an amazing job!

Thank you to everyone who was able to come to meet the teacher night tonight. I have attached the handout if you need it. There were a couple of things I forgot to mention.

I can’t believe I forgot to mention how lucky we are to have Mme Skye in our class to support all our students. She is a treasure! Please introduce yourself to her at the school.

Roots of Empathy - we will be welcoming a baby to our classroom once a month as a teacher. He will be teaching the students empathy with the help of our school councilor, Mme Yee.

This year, students will be invited to be peer helpers. They will have the role of helping on the playground if they wish. We will be organizing this ASAP!
